Reflect on your experiences creating Project A from start to finish. What worked and what did not? What do you think was the strongest aspect of the design process? The weakest? How do you think the experience will effect you on Project B?
I would like to start my reflection by saying this was a very rewarding process. I have been writing curriculum for many years at my current job, but I have never done so with as much purpose and structure as this instructional design course has laid out.
Being a very data driven person, learning about how to look at data before you start, pick the data that best represents the goal you are trying to reach, and then using that data as the backbone for what kind of curriculum you create was a very logical system. The analysis report really allowed me to understand what was happening currently for my client, and what needed to be done by the end of this.
The design and development process were the ones that I was most familiar with coming into this class. Defining objectives, finding components of the course, and then creating learning activities that best fit those objectives was how we were taught to write curriculum. This process really laid out a step by step process that did make the design and development easier.
The implementations and evaluations after the course was set up is probably my new favorite activity that this course introduced to me. It makes perfect sense to go in after the fact and evaluate how the course is going, but the text really gave me some concrete things to look for. Once I have found those things, making changes to the course was not only easier, but made creating new sections much more rewarding.
The weakest part for me, however was the evaluations. I believe this is mostly due to the fact I have not had as much time evaluating the performances as I would like. As soon as I was able to give this design document to my client, they had about 2 weeks of implementing it, and then spring break, and then Covid. I'm looking forward to seeing what this will look like the future, but as of right now, the evaluating is difficult.
I think this whole process will help me very much on project B. I'm still working out exactly what I want to do for project B, but I think knowing what will happen down the road will help me with expectations for myself and my client. Just knowing what goes into the project will be helpful in explaining to my client what it is that I will be doing for them.
